Classic Margarita Recipe

A crisp, citrusy Margarita is at home almost anywhere: a sunny wedding welcome, a company gathering or a relaxed private party. This classic build keeps the balance simple—bright lime, smooth tequila and a touch of orange liqueur—so it is easy to make consistently for guests.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 3/4 oz triple sec or other orange liqueur
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • Ice
  • Optional: 1/4 oz agave syrup if you prefer a softer, sweeter finish

Steps

  1. If desired, half-rim a rocks glass with lime and dip it in salt.
  2. Add tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice and optional agave to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake until well chilled, then strain over fresh ice.

Glass: Rocks glass
Garnish: Lime wheel or wedge, with a salt rim if you like

Serving it at your event

For 10 servings, combine 20 oz tequila, 7 1/2 oz orange liqueur and 10 oz lime juice in a chilled, labeled container. Add 2 1/2 oz agave syrup only if using it. Keep the batch cold, stir before pouring, and measure 3 3/4 oz per drink (4 oz with agave) over fresh ice. Do not add ice to the storage container; it will dilute the mix. For a larger gathering, the free Alcohol Calculator can help estimate quantities. Give Us A Shot can also serve Margaritas from its Single Tap Cart, a stainless mobile bar cart with a built-in tap and drop-in ice chest.

Zero-proof variation

For each serving, shake 2 oz zero-proof tequila alternative, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 1/2 oz orange syrup or orange juice, and 1/4 oz agave with ice. Strain over fresh ice in the same glass and top with a small splash of chilled soda water. Garnish with lime and salt the rim separately so guests can choose.

Offer the drink alongside water and other nonalcoholic choices, and remind guests to enjoy responsibly.
